One of the coastal municipality in Quezon Province is Mauban Quezon with a land area of 55,160 hectares consist of 40 barangays. It lies from 157 km southeast from Manila and 52 km away from the capital of Quezon Province,Lucena City. The municipality's name was originated from a name "Gat Uban",a hero who defended Mauban's people or "Maubanin" against the Moros during 16th century. The statue of Gat Pagil or better known as "Gat Uban" that was built on January 1984 is located at the Seawall of Mauban. When Gat was twenty years old, white and gray hair was observed on him, those hair usually visible when aging. And because of his hair color, he was called Gat Uban, "uban" means white hair in tagalog term.
Mauban Seawall in Brgy. Daungan is the most visited in the town. You can see here the relaxing view of the Sea. It is a good place to hangout, go fishing and watch the sunrise or sunset with your friends and family. At the end of the seawall there's a port for a travellers going to Cagbalete island, a serene and simple white island.
The church of Saint Bonaventure Parish is the first Catholic Church in Mauban that was built in 1647. It is name for San Bonaventure known as "Seraphic Doctor". He was an Italian Medieval Franciscan, Scholastic Theologian and a Philosopher.
If you want to see the graceful view of Mauban. Go and visit the Rizal Hill Park or Calvario Hill located at the center of the town. You have to take 50-step stairs to reach the top of the hill and you will surely enjoy here the cool breeze and amazing scenes. The statue of our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal was erected at the top of the hill and constructed on December 1912 under the Mauban Circle Association of Students. This hill was formerly part of the Sierra Madre Mountain range but separated due to the road construction.
